Geckos in My Garden
34" x 34"
“Geckos in My Garden" is my original design and interprets the element of Earth by showing five geckos scurrying around in the dirt a rock garden, one admiring the bright flowers, another darting from beneath a gray rock, and an adventurous third deciding that he must explore the world outside the garden. When I think of the word “earth,” I imagine thick, soft, dark brown dirt in a garden, and used several shades of brown and tan to capture the many shades of dirt. And what would dirt be without brightly colored flowers? The earth is also a symbol of nurturing and life, so I placed some flowers on the piece. The rocks, which were originally made from earth through pressure and heat, reflect earth’s attribute of permanence and durability.
As a response to the several requests I have received about people wanting to purchase this quilt, I am sorry, but no can do. I gave this quilt to my mother because she whined about it so much. It was her idea to put the rocks and flowers in and she kept saying that since it was her idea, I should give it to her and that she had never asked for one of my quilts before, etc. So I gave it to her. Well, at least I told her that I would give it to her after it returned from Australia. At the time it was on tour in Australia with the rest of the "Elements of Nature" challenge entries. So to everyone who wants to purchase "Geckos in My Garden," it's not mine to sell. I can make a similar duplicate for about $150 to $200, not including shipping. Email me if you are interested.
